ComEd’s Policy on Storm Debris Disposal

Please see Storm Debris Disposal:

  • The customer is responsible for the disposal of branches, logs, or other debris associated with their trees damaged by storms, ice, winds, or other natural causes.
  • ComEd is responsible for cutting, trimming or removing trees or branches that are causing service interruptions
ComEd vegetation crews are unable to assist customers with the disposal of private tree debris, as it would impede our crews’ ability to restore electric service to customers as quickly and as safely as possible. If the customer needs assistance with tree debris removal, they may visit TCIA.org to find local tree service companies that are accredited by the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA). Please note, there may be a cost associated with this service.

ComEd Service Wire Policy:

  • ComEd does not perform non-emergency tree trimming for the service wire.
    • If customers plan to trim near their service wire, they should contact ComEd to either drop or de-energize the service wire and contact ComEd again to re-connect service once trimming is complete. The customer will be without power until the service wire is re-connected. There is no charge for this service, if scheduled during normal working hours Monday through Friday.
  • Alternatively, ComEd qualified line clearance tree trimmers are able to provide clearance from the service wire to allow a private contractor to safely trim or remove the rest of the tree, if needed. There is a cost associated with this service.
  • For assistance, customers should call 1-800-EDISON-1 (1-800-334-7661) and a ComEd representative will contact them as soon as possible to schedule the date and time of the service wire drop.
