Over the last three years, I had the honor of visiting our local schools at the invitation of teachers and students. While I enjoy so many aspects of being Mayor, I truly enjoy spending time with our student residents and responding to their concerns regarding not only our community, but also the world at large. My visits have included Government classes at Downers Grove South and a Civics class at Hinsdale South. I have also been part of a tour of Hinsdale South’s classes, where I had a chance to speak with students about South and its impact on their lives.

During these visits, I have been impressed with the sophistication of their questions and concerns, as they sought my input on programs and events in Darien as well as issues regarding federal and state programs. It was fascinating to hear them address the importance of learning as they prepare for life beyond high school. As Darien residents, we can be proud of these students as they demonstrate their commitment to becoming civically involved and ready to contribute to our future growth as a community and as a society.
