Every Day Matters

Several days from now, we will be saying goodbye to the year 2022 and welcoming our new year, 2023. As we approach this transition it will be, in many respects, a result of how we view our lives and the world around us. Some will look at the future as a continuation of the past, while others will view it as a fresh new start; an opportunity to select a new path, “full of things that never were.”

For many, the burdens of life or of the past year are difficult to put behind them; they may have experienced great loss, personally or professionally. Turning a new page could be difficult for some, and I would be untruthful if I told you that I can easily forget the sum of issues my family dealt with this past year. Nonetheless, I truly believe as Joseph Campbell states “we must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us. The old skin has to be shed before the new one can come.” I have adopted an attitude that everyday matters; as I approach each day, I need to appreciate it for what it will mean to my life, not dismissing it, and looking beyond it toward another event, but appreciating what I can get accomplished each and every day of my life.

As we approach the new year, let us look not only at 2023 for what it can offer, rather let us look at each day of 2023 as Mac Anderson states as “…the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left behind… let it be something good.”

Best wishes to all of you as we approach 2023, and may everyday provide you with an opportunity to not only enjoy the beauty that it brings, it will give you a chance to learn, grow and contribute within our community.
